Trauma Informed Counseling

The pain people carry with them after a traumatic experience can be extraordinarily heavy. In experiencing trauma, we often find ways of coping that become a sense of safety and protection for us. We isolate, we deny our experiences or "put them away," we escape into other things/people, we people please, we try to be "perfect" to not worry others... so many ways we attempt to survive moments of overwhelm and distress. Unfortunately, what once felt like protection to us and helped us survive can actually cause pain later if that pattern continues.

Much of our work in walking with clients involves navigating painful, traumatic experiences from their past such as:
  • Physical Abuse
  • Verbal Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Physical Neglect
  • Emotional Neglect
  • Relationship Betrayal
  • Combat Related Trauma
  • Medical Trauma
  • Natural Disaster Trauma

It can be hard to find someone who we feel safe sharing our experiences with and, consequently, we end up harboring these experiences and the emotions attached to those experiences. People do this all the time. They do it while they are trying to function in the world, work, raise children and have relationships. Harboring all of this pain can result in trapped emotions, denial of self, isolation from others and can be devastating to our emotional well-being, our relationships with partners and children, and take a toll on our physical health.

People can experience transformation and healing when processing in a safe space with a trusted, safe other. Our work is focused on creating that space for you to process, find healing and experience greater emotional flexibility.
