As we continue with our GCA Bookshelf series, Beth shares her current picks that she often recommends to clients and has found helpful. Let's take a look at her current choices for helpful resources!
Building a Resilient Life: How Adversity Awakens Strength, Hope, and Meaning by Rebekah Lyons I recommend this book to clients experiencing grief, tragedy, or disappointment. It is particularly useful for those trying to understand the reasons behind their circumstances. The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload by Daniel Levitin This book in an invaluable resource for individuals experiencing the challenges of daily information overload, particularly those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who did not grow up with smartphones and are now adapting to the heightened influx of information. No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model by Richard Schwartz No Bad Parts is for those who would like to learn more about Internal Family Systems (IFS) and how it can help us organize patterns of behaviors and strategies that we have learned to navigate life and relationships. Boundaries for Your Soul: How to Turn Your Overwhelming Thoughts and Feelings Into Your Greatest Allies by Allison Cook & Kimberly Miller Read this with No Bad Parts as a package deal (starting with No Bad Parts) to understand Internal Family Systems theory and therapy. I recommend these to clients who connect with IFS in sessions and want a deeper dive into "parts" work. The Deepest Place: Suffering and the Formation of Hope by Curt Thompson An in-depth analysis of Romans 5:3-4, examining the biblical concept of hope. Prior to reading this book, I struggled to understand the connection from suffering to hope. Although familiar with scripture, I could not articulate how it manifests in life. This book clarifies the progression of suffering to hope and how God facilitates this transformation in our lives. My perspective on suffering has significantly changed as a result, and clients have similarly expressed their newfound understanding.
