How Summer Can Bring Renewal and Reconnection

There is just something about summer that naturally invites people to slow down and breathe a little deeper. Schedules can become a little more flexible, days feel longer, families spend more time together, school is out, vacations take place. Overall, the pace of life can feel slightly less rushed than it may feel other seasons of the year.

At Grace Counseling, summer is often one of the best seasons for people to begin (or come back to) counseling. Not at all because life is falling apart, but because there is a little more margin in our lives to intentionally tend to ourselves and our families, to heal, reset, and reconnect.

I think it is fair to say most of us spend our time in "go mode," which means high levels of productivity, honoring never-ending responsibilities to those around us out of a place of genuine love and service. In these modes, though, we are also often carrying stress, worry, anxiety, exhaustion, maybe even a feeling of disconnection from ourselves, others, and God.

You may be asking yourself:

* Why have I been feeling so overwhelmed lately?
* Why does it feel like I'm just going through the motions of life?
* Why do I feel emotionally disconnected from others when life looks good?
* What would it look like for me to feel more grounded and present again?

Counseling can help create clarity around these questions, so you can begin walking toward healing, connection, and renewal.

Rather than waiting for a crisis, many people choose counseling as a protective investment in their emotional, relational, and spiritual health. Summer can be an especially good time to begin building new patterns in our lives before the bustle and routines of fall return.

This season can offer a meaningful opportunity to:

* Reduce stress and anxiety
* Improve communication in relationships
* Work through emotional exhaustion
* Heal from relational wounds
* Reconnect with your faith and values
* Develop healthier emotional habits
* Feel more present in everyday life

For couples and families, summer can create more opportunities for meaningful change as well. Many couples become more aware of the areas where they long for more connection, peace, and emotional health. During the summer there may even be more flexibility in our schedules to be intentional about the health of our relationships.

For high-achieving people, especially, counseling is often less about "falling apart" and more about learning how to live with greater balance, honesty, freedom, and engagement. We know we are created to live wholeheartedly but, when we take an honest look, can we say we are living that out or experiencing that in our relationships, within our families, or even in our workplaces? How might things look or feel different for you if you were living more wholeheartedly?

At Grace Counseling Associates, we work with individuals, couples, and families, who want thoughtful, evidence-informed counseling without feeling like they have to separate that from their Christian faith. We honor people where they are and incorporate faith to the level desired by the client. We focus our work on helping people heal and grow, to experience joy and greater peace in their lives and important relationships.

We hope for you that summer is a season to reset, heal, and begin moving forward in new and wonderful ways!
